About

Architecture that earns its keep.

Mohamed ELTorky is a Cloud Architect with 7+ years modernizing applications and migrating workloads across AWS and Azure — refactoring monoliths into microservices and serverless, automating everything with infrastructure-as-code and DevSecOps, and designing for cost, resilience, and operational excellence.

I work where strategy meets the terminal — leading Cloud Operations across engineering, data, and security, defending designs in front of AWS principal engineers and Gartner, then shipping the landing zones, pipelines, and serverless workloads myself. The throughline is always the same: lower cost, higher resilience, cleaner operations.

Education & Training

B.Sc. Computer Science

Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport

GPA 3.45 / 4.0 · Minor in Information Systems · WES Verified · 2015 — 2019

Summer Engineering Workshop — Robotics & AI

California Polytechnic State University · San Luis Obispo, California · 2017

An early, hands-on start in AI and robotics — autonomous robots and a self-guided drone with sensor-driven decision frameworks, years before today’s production generative-AI work.

Cloud Solutions Architect

05/2024 — Present Riyadh, KSA

A leading national fitness operator across KSA & UAE. As the CTO’s delivery consultant, I lead Cloud Operations — cloud engineers and database administrators — and guide implementation partners through delivery.

  • Migrated a live, member-critical application from Azure to AWS for 1M+ users — zero downtime on the control-plane cutover and under 15 minutes on the data plane.
  • Led the AWS data-center exit on a Control Tower landing zone: hub-and-spoke connectivity via AWS Transit Gateway, with a controlled FortiGate edge bridging AWS to the corporate SD-WAN so exited workloads stayed reachable across 220+ branches.
  • Modernized Azure PaaS to AWS serverless (Lambda + Bref for Laravel) — API Gateway, CloudFront, SQS, S3, DMS, RDS + RDS Proxy, ElastiCache, MongoDB Atlas — driving a major recurring OPEX reduction, and championed the dev team’s shift from monolithic hosting to Lambda.
  • Brought generative AI to production on AWS — RAG pipelines and LLM agents on Amazon Bedrock and open-source frameworks, with the data ingestion, retrieval, and guardrail architecture around them.
  • Own DevSecOps, observability, and security: migrated observability from IBM Instana to Datadog to cut MTTR, rebuilt the pipeline (GitHub Actions → Jenkins) with split SAST/DAST/SCA and Checkmarx gates, and manage GitHub Enterprise and its integrations.
  • Re-platformed the CDN from Cloudflare to AWS CloudFront with zero downtime.
  • Partnered with the data team on a decision-support platform (Oracle Fusion on Oracle OLAP): led the evaluation of Microsoft Fabric vs. QuickSight, Athena, and Glue — Fabric was adopted, and I manage its capacity and monitoring as a DataOps stakeholder.
  • Authored the Vision 2030 ISV multi-tenant SaaS architecture (tenancy isolation, shared services, VPC Lattice) on an AWS Enterprise Support account with a dedicated TAM — reviewed and endorsed by AWS principal (L7) engineers with no material changes.

Albawani Contracting Company

Solutions Architect

01/2024 — 05/2024 Riyadh, KSA

Class-1 ranked, top-five KSA construction operator.

  • Ran discovery with stakeholders and produced target-state designs and decision memos with tradeoffs and risk.
  • Evaluated low-code direction (Creatio → Mendix on technical fit) and defined the enterprise hosting and operating model.
  • Designed and built an on-prem Kubernetes platform for Mendix — Ansible-automated node provisioning, MetalLB load balancing, and enterprise network/security integration.

BuildMart

Cloud Architect

01/2023 — 12/2023 Riyadh, KSA

B2C/B2B construction-procurement startup (later acquired by Albawani).

  • Designed scalable AWS architecture for prod/staging/test with account isolation via AWS Organizations.
  • Migrated workloads off DigitalOcean/Vultr to AWS, decoupling services to remove single points of failure.
  • Ran load/stress tests (JMeter, ApacheBench) and delivered an exec-ready performance comparison report.

ELSYSTEM INC.

Senior Software Engineer → Technical Lead

01/2021 — 12/2022 Remote · Irvine, CA (US)

US-headquartered education SaaS delivered across Egypt — a faculty-to-student platform and a university/school ERP, serving 30K+ active users at 6 universities and 2 schools.

  • Promoted to Technical Lead; led modernization of a monolithic PHP/Laravel SaaS toward AWS.
  • Reduced infrastructure running costs by 55% by re-architecting hosting and automating deployments via Jenkins.
  • Drove serverless adoption — refactored Laravel components to Lambda with Bref and enabled the team via demos/KT.
  • Introduced governance automation with CloudCustodian + SES/SNS for tagging enforcement and cost control.
